Thomson Reuters MSE Investment Managers Forum

On 14 February 2018, the Malta stock Exchange (MSE) hosted the Thomson Reuters MSE Investment Managers’ Forum. The event focussed on the Investment Managers’ role in the fund and asset management industry and sought to highlight the challenges and opportunities that currently exist in the Financial Markets. The changing role of the investment management industry was also debated.

The event was inaugurated by the Chairman of the Malta Stock Exchange Mr Joseph Portelli. The inauguration was followed by a welcome address by the Minister for Finance Hon Prof Edward Scicluna who highlighted that “the reason for the financial services performing so well is that Malta is professional, and has the needed expertise to attract business to its shores.”

Other keynote speeches were delivered by Detlef Glow, Head of Lipper EMEA Research at Thomson Reuters, Mr Gerry Perez from Interactive Brokers (UK) Ltd and Dr Christopher Buttigieg Director of the Securities and Supervision Unit at the MFSA.

Two panel discussions were held during the event. The first panel discussed the ‘Current challenges and opportunities in the financial markets’. Panel participants were Albert Conca, from AQA Capital, Wayne Spiteri from HSBC Global Asset Management, Malta, Detlef Glow from Thomson Reuters and Alexander Gunz from Heptagon Capital. The panel was moderated by Mr Joseph Portelli, Chairman Malta Stock Exchange.

The second panel discussed ‘The changing role of the investment management industry’ and was moderated by Mr Kenneth Farrugia, Chairman, Finance Malta. Panelists were Mark Agius from BOV Asset Management, Manuel Leanza from Thomson Reuters and Gerry Perez and Grégoire Tésé from Interactive Brokers (UK) ltd and AUM Asset Management respectively.

The forum was very well attended by fund and asset managers as well as other experts in the field.
